Will I receive a refund if I cancel a booking?

Refunds for cancellations may vary depending on your sitter's cancellation policy and the date you cancel. This is why it's always a good idea to familiarize yourself with these policies before booking.

There are three types of cancellation policies:

  • Flexible
  • Moderate
  • Strict

To view your sitter's cancellation policy:

1. Visit your sitter’s profile and scroll down to Availability section of their account.  

2. Under the calendar, you’ll see a list of the sitter’s services and their cancellation policy next to each service. To review the details of each service type, hover your mouse over the cancellation policy.

Here is a list of the different types of cancellation policies:

Flexible
For boarding and house sitting:

  • You'll get a full refund if you cancel before the stay begins.
  • If you cancel after the stay or walk begins, you'll get a 50% refund for the first seven cancelled days and a 100% refund for any additional cancelled days.

For walks, day care and drop-in visits:

  • You’ll get a full refund if you cancel before the day’s service is delivered.

Moderate

  • You'll get a full refund if you cancel by 12:00 noon the day before the stay begins (12:00 noon is determined by your sitter's time zone).
  • If you cancel after 12:00 noon the day before the stay begins, you'll get a 50% refund for the first seven cancelled days and a 100% refund for any additional cancelled days.

Strict

  • You'll get a full refund if you cancel by 12:00 noon one week before the stay begins (12:00 noon is determined by your sitter's time zone).
  • If you cancel after 12:00 noon one week before the stay begins, you'll get a 50% refund for the first seven cancelled days and a 100% refund for any additional days.

Cancellation policies for booking modifications

In cases where you need to update dates for a booking, you aren't automatically charged a cancellation penalty. However, sitters may choose to apply their cancellation policy for these types of changes. Please contact your sitter directly via Rover Messages to see what their policies are for booking modifications.

Note: Keep in mind that modifications to a service type, stay length, or number of pets can affect the booking price.
